Here’s everything you would want to know about motion sensors. The following article covers what are motion sensors, its usage areas,
installation, testing and maintenance.
What are motion sensors?
A motion sensor is a device which detects the presence of something
or someone based on its movement. After detecting the presence the connected
lights are turned ON/OFF etc. It eliminates the need for manually operating the
switch. It helps to conserve energy by turning OFF the lights whenever not
required.
Usage Areas:
A motion sensor can be used in areas where switching lights
ON/OFF is frequent. It can be installed in bathrooms, passageways, pantries,
kitchens, equipment rooms, etc.
Installation:
It is battery empowered and hence can be installed easily
within a couple of hours. The steps for installation can be followed by going
through the user manual or can be done watching the video. No external changes
to the switch are made while installing the motion sensor. A node is placed
behind the switch board which takes care of the functioning of the motion
sensor.
Testing:
The motion sensor can be tested by checking the battery
power regularly and by walking in the pre-defined area and checking whether it
works.
Note: Make sure not
to place the motion sensor in temperature alteration zones such as air
conditioners, central heating or moving objects like fans, curtains, etc. The
working of the motion sensor may be hampered due to it.
Maintenance:
Clean the translucent lens gently with a cloth every few
months to remove the dirt.
If the sensor does not operate, disconnect the wires and
restore the wiring to the original.
